An 18-year-old youth has died while playing a hurling match for his club in Cork.
Liam O Regan collapsed and died as he cleared a ball ten minutes into the second half of the game at Waterfall on the outskirts of the city last night.
The teenager was playing for his club Ballinora in a mid-Cork minor league game against Kilmichael.
His parents were at the game and his brother was also playing.
He had just finished his Leaving Certificate exams last Friday.
A number of doctors attended the scene within minutes of the teenager’s collapse but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
The death has caused a deep sense of shock in the area.
